The Veteran and Family Wellbeing Agency (the Agency) officially launched today, marking an important step in improving wellbeing support for veterans and the families of veterans.
The Agency will support veterans and families of veterans across Australia by making it easier to find, understand and connect with the services and support they need. It is part of a broader reform to improve how wellbeing support is delivered in response to recommendations from the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
At its heart the Agency is about connection. Connection to trusted information, to the right services at the right time, and to community. It is designed to help people navigate what can often feel like a complex system, especially during times of change, such as transitioning from military to civilian life.
The community can now access information about wellbeing resources and services through the new website. A dedicated helpline is also available for people with more complex wellbeing needs who may need more tailored support.
The Agency does not replace existing services. Instead, it works alongside Defence, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and community providers to improve coordination and make support easier to navigate.
In its initial phase, the Agency will have a focus on veterans and families of veterans transitioning from service who need additional support, in line with Royal Commission recommendations recognising that the first 12 months after service can shape long-term wellbeing. This will include on-base support through Veteran and Family Support Officers.
Over time, the Agency will continue to grow – guided by feedback, lived experience and a shared commitment to improving wellbeing outcomes for veterans and families.
Want to know more? Please join as for an online town hall for veterans, the families of veterans and the broader veteran community on Thursday, 9 July 2026. More information on this event is available from the Agency's website.
