Veterans Affairs Ministerial Advisory Council
The Veterans Affairs Ministerial Advisory Council (MAC) provides the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel independent advice on the experiences and needs of serving personnel, veterans and families of veterans.
The Ministerial Advisory Council is independent of Defence and DVA and is comprised of 10 part-time members with diverse capabilities, including veterans, families of veterans and people with expertise in military or veterans’ affairs, healthcare, wellbeing and commemorations.
The role of the Ministerial Advisory Council is to:
- provide independent advice on the experiences and needs of serving personnel, veterans and families of veterans
- provide advice on veteran services including advice on the administration and stewardship of support services provided to serving personnel, veterans and families of veterans
- collaborate with other advisory bodies, experts and those with lived experience to develop advice
- assess and report to the Minister on the quality of outcomes for serving personnel, veterans and families.
It complements, but does not replace, existing consultation mechanisms — providing regularity, structure and specialist expertise in advice to the Minister.
Expressions of interest for the MAC are now open and will close on 23 March 2026. To find out more and apply, visit the APS Jobs website.
