- Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986 (VEA)
The VEA provides pensions, benefits, medical and other treatment to veterans and their dependants, mostly arising from defence service prior to 1 July 2004. The VEA was closed to new compensation and rehabilitation claims on 1 July 2026. - Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence-related Claims) Act 1988 (DRCA)
The DRCA provided for compensation and rehabilitation arising from peacetime and peacekeeping service up to and including 30 June 2004 and operational service between 7 April 1994 and 30 June 2004. The DRCA was closed to new compensation and rehabilitation claims on 1 July 2026. - Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (MRCA)
Before 1 July 2026, the MRCA provided for compensation, rehabilitation and other benefits in relation to defence service on or after 1 July 2004. The Act also provides compensation and other benefits for the dependants of certain deceased members whose death is the result of service on or after 1 July 2004.
From 1 July 2026, the MRCA is the single ongoing Act for compensation and rehabilitation, regardless of when the veteran served or when the injury or disease occurred. All new claims submitted from this date are determined under the MRCA.
