Information about becoming a DVA BCWD contracted transport provider

If required, DVA can only engage new transport providers to deliver Booked Car with Driver services through an approved procurement process. For enquiries, contact Transport.Contracts@dva.gov.au.

DVA transport provider business opportunities are published on AusTender.

If you are not a DVA contracted transport provider, eligible veterans can travel using your service, pay for the trip and then submit a travel reimbursement claim to DVA.

Ambulance services

Emergency and non-emergency ambulance

DVA has agreements in place with states and territories (or their contracted ambulance provider) to enable payment for ambulance services provided to eligible veterans.

These state and territory providers are:

  • ACT Ambulance Service (ACT)
  • NSW Ambulance Service (NSW)
  • St John Ambulance (NT)
  • Queensland Ambulance Service (Qld)
  • South Australia Ambulance Service (SA)
  • Ambulance Tasmania (Tas)
  • Ambulance Victoria (Vic)
  • St John Ambulance (WA)

Non-emergency ambulance must be booked by an authorised officer such as a treating clinician or discharge planner. It is available for eligible veterans who need to travel on a stretcher or receive treatment during transit or have a medical condition that prevents using other types of transport.

Non-emergency ambulance transport cannot be booked by a veteran themselves, nor their representative nor a DVA staff member.

If a contracted ambulance provider cannot supply the required non-emergency transport, an authorised officer can book a service with a qualified and registered private ambulance provider.

Non-emergency air ambulance

At times, an air ambulance may be required to provide a non-emergency ambulance service to transport an eligible veteran home, or to a tertiary hospital from a remote location.

If the air ambulance provider is not contracted by DVA, the authorised officer will need to obtain a quote and seek prior approval (where practical) from DVA by emailing Transport.Programs@dva.gov.au. Services arranged without DVA approval may not be funded.

Further information for authorised officers is available at Patient care.
