Are you working or planning to work for a foreign entity? Then you may need a Foreign Work Authorisation (FWA). 

Even after leaving Defence, as someone with any degree of defence knowledge and experience you may be considered a “foreign work restricted individual”, and are still responsible for protecting Defence’s official information, knowledge and intellectual property.

You may require an FWA before working or providing training for a foreign entity, including higher education and research, which may benefit a foreign military, government or government-controlled body. Though many overseas roles may not require approval – including some work with Five Eyes partners (US, UK, Canada and NZ) – it is best to seek advice.
