A message from Invictus Australia

Invictus Australia is pleased to announce that Expressions of Interest are now open for the 2026 Adaptive Sports Program (ASP). The ASP is the pathway to participation in the Warrior Games and Invictus Games, which offer veterans the opportunity to rediscover purpose, build confidence and connect with others who share similar experiences.

The ASP provides a structured, evidence-informed pathway to support the recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration of wounded, injured or ill current and former serving personnel.

For many participants, the ASP offers a space where they feel understood, supported, and encouraged. One participant shared: ‘Give it a go because you’ll never look back. Find a pathway, follow it, and see how far you can go.’

Another reflected on the broader impact of the experience, saying ‘Events like Warrior Games are an incredible experience, but it’s how you apply what you learnt back in your local communities that matters most to me. Seeing veterans go home and actually start to get out of the house again, maybe take up a sport, maybe get themselves back into work. This is what matters most to me.’

Michael Hartung, CEO of Invictus Australia, explains that international events like the Warrior and Invictus Games provide veterans with a powerful reminder of what they are capable of. ‘These events reinforce the importance of connection and help veterans realise that their journey of recovery is not only possible but achievable,’ Mr Hartung says.

‘Through Invictus Australia’s involvement, support does not stop at the conclusion of a Games. It continues beyond, with our local veteran engagement team working with participants to encourage their participation in community sport programs ongoing.’

Veterans and their families are supported to stay active and connected through local sporting events, volunteer and spectating opportunities. These experiences foster belonging, purpose and wellbeing – core pillars of recovery.

Selection for the ASP is not based on athletic performance, but rather on recovery potential and personal readiness, ensuring the program remains inclusive and focused on generating impactful outcomes for all involved. Former serving veterans who are wounded, injured, or ill are encouraged to take the next step in their recovery journey by applying for the program.

Expression of interest close on Sunday 31 August 2025.
