Homelessness Week highlights the importance of investing in capital work and services

Homelessness Week is an annual event that aims to raise awareness of homelessness in Australia, whom it affects, and the importance of investing in housing solutions. Homelessness Week 2024 will be held from 5 to 11 August 2024.

The Australian Government is committed to ending homelessness, and has invested $30 million in the Veterans’ Acute Housing Program (VAHP); part of this funding has been allocated through the $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund.

The VAHP – through the implementation of targeted funding projects that will provide additional crisis and transitional housing stock and fund specialist services – is aiming to support veterans and their families who are experiencing, or at risk of homelessness.

Applications are open until 9:00PM AEST on 13 September 2024 for veteran-aware, registered community housing providers and ex-service organisations to apply for funding to deliver projects through this program.

The $30 million in funding comprises of two related streams:

  • $24 million in capital works funding to build crisis and transitional housing
  • $6 million to help deliver specialist services for veterans who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

For more information about community housing provider and ex-service organisations funding opportunities, visit Grant Connect or the DVA website.

DVA may be able to offer support for veterans experiencing homelessness by linking them to service providers, providing personalised case management and through crisis payments.

Veterans and families experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness can call 1800 VETERAN (1800 838 372) or visit our website for more information.
