Communities honouring service: Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grant recipients announced

The Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants will fund schools, councils, RSL sub-branches and community organisations to create lasting tributes. Each funded project represents a story of dedication, gratitude and community pride.

One recipient, Aubin Grave Primary School in Western Australia, will create a memorial space complete with a granite stone-mounted plaque, surrounded by clay poppies made by students. This memorial will become the centrepiece of the school’s ANZAC commemorations for years to come.

Other projects include creating a commemorative garden at the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross Reserve in Victoria; expanding the moving 21 Hearts production to bring the story of Vivian Bullwinkel and the Nurses of the Vyner Brook to stages around the country; and installing overhead protection at the NSW Lancers Memorial Museum to ensure the historic vehicle fleet is safe from the elements and easy for visitors to enjoy in any weather.

The Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program runs annually, in 2 batches. In 202627, up to $3.5 million in funding is available across 2 categories: Community Grants and Major Grants.

  • Community Grants up to $10,000 are available for local community-based commemorative projects and activities.

  •  Major Grants are between $10,001 to $150,000 are available for major commemorative projects that are significant from a national, state, territory and/or regional perspective.

The impact of these projects extends well beyond their communities. They create places for reflection, connection and pride. They teach children the meaning of service, and they remind us that commemoration is not only about looking back, but also about building a future rooted in respect and understanding.
