Personal message to those that have served, continue to serve and the families that stand behind them.
Lest we forget.

The Armistice of 11 November 1918 brought the end of a terrible conflict, but the peace lasted another 20 odd years. As the son of the 1939-45 RAAF veteran and as a police veteran myself, I believe that if we are to learn from the service and sacrifice or our forebears and if the honoured phrase Lest We Forget is to continue to resonate, we need to constantly remind ourselves that peace is not just the absence of conflict but the presence of justice. The presence of conflict or the absence of justice is not peace, but something else.

These photos are of my Pa, Francis Wilfred Glynn and his brother, Uncle Robert Glynn. My Nan's brothers, Uncle Glen Hughes and Uncle Ronald Hughes.
Their remarkable service history spans Egypt (Battle of Tobruk), Greece, Syria, New Guinea (Kokoda Track and Battle of Milne Bay), Malaya and Singapore (Battle of Singapore).
Young men placed in extraordinary circumstances and facing insurmountable odds.
Thank you for your selfless service and profound sacrifice.

Lest we Forget

Private Loris Ralph 12 Battalion Served in Gallipoli, your family is grateful for your courage.

My father was in the 2/1 battalion in Crete. He was subsequently captured by the Germans and spent over 4 years as a POW. He escaped on several occasions. When he returned from the war he was suffering from PTSD and persistent headaches. He died of a PTSD related accident at a railway station in Melbourne when I was 3 years of age. At that time DVA did not recognise PTSD and it was some years before my mother was finally able to get a DVA card. Our family was ably assisted by Legacy once that occurred.

Father - Harold Alfred Lovegrove MC. He served as a Forward Observer in the 2/3 Field Regiment in the Middle East and New Guinea. He fought with considerable distinction and was awarded a military cross for conspicuous bravery under fire in Wewak, Papua New Guinea. My father served in the CMF prior to the World War 2 and 10 years after in regional Western Australia. He was a staunch advocate for defence of the freedoms we enjoy today. He was a wonderful father and my hero.

My husband was a very proud member of 7RAR and served 2 tours of duty with that Battalion in Vietnam. On the 1st tour from 2/4/1967 to 26/4/1968 he was a Corporal and on the 2nd tour from 16/02/1970 to 14/01/1971 was a Sergeant.

He was promoted to an officer after the 2nd tour and retired as a Major with an AM which was awarded after his efforts as Chief Ceremonial Officer for the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane. His nickname was "Pom" or "Pommy" because he migrated from the UK.
