Veteran Card Holders are eligible to register in MyMedicare

On 1 October 2023, MyMedicare opened for patients to register and choose their regular General Practitioner (GP). Formalising the relationship patients have with their GP through MyMedicare can lead to better health outcomes.

Patients can register in MyMedicare using their DVA Veteran Card or Medicare card details provided they have had two face-to-face visits, funded by DVA or Medicare, with their usual GP in the previous 24 months. Patients who live in a rural or remote area (Modified Monash Classification 6 or 7) will only require one face-to-face visit.

Your practice must be accredited against the national General Practice Accreditation Scheme to accept enrolment from patients in the MyMedicare program.

GPs and practices who register in MyMedicare will have access to:

  • more information about regular patients, making it easier to tailor services to fit the patient's needs
  • longer DVA and MBS-funded telephone calls (Levels C and D) for their registered patients (from 1 November 2023) and
  • a tripled Veterans' Access Payment incentive for longer DVA funded telehealth consultations (Levels C, D and E) providing greater incentive for GPs to treat veterans (from 1 November 2023).

For more information, including how your practice can register and download resources including fact sheets, frequently asked questions, brochure, and social media tiles, visit the Department of Health and Aged Care website

You may also wish to download the MyMedicare fact sheet for DVA patients to have on hand when you are speaking with your veteran patients.
