Claiming changes to DVA Dental Program — dental therapists, dental hygienists and oral health therapists and schedule C annual monetary limit

The annual monetary limit (AML) for all items listed under Schedule C will double and become a biennial monetary limit (BML; two-years).

This means DVA will pay:

  • From 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027 — up to a total limit of $5,980.30.
  • From 1 January 2028 to 31 December 2029 — up to a total limit of $5,980.30 (subject to annual indexation).

This limit is not cumulative and cannot be used in subsequent years.

In addition, dental therapists, hygienists and oral health therapists will no longer require a dentist or dental specialist to claim services they provide to veterans. They must be registered with the Dental Board of Australia and comply with approved scope of practice registration standards.

DVA has updated the Fee Schedule of Dental Services for Dentists, Dental Specialists and Other Dental Practitioners and Notes for Allied Health Providers Section 2(c) Dentists, Dental Specialists, Dental Prosthetists and Other Dental Practitioners, which are available to read on the DVA website:
