Letter to the Editor

I recently had a note published on the newspaper’s Noticeboard page asking if anyone had a copy of the book about my maternal grandfather’s battalion in WW2: The Brown and Blue Diamond at War, the story of the 2nd/27th Battalion. I rated my chances of success as akin to the proverbial Buckley’s and Nunn (i.e. an albeit hopeful zero).

But lo and behold, two blokes in two different states (SA and WA) contacted me and mailed me copies of the book, so I can now hand them on down the family line. As well as that, I was also able to secure a copy for a bloke in Tassie (whose father had served with the 2/27th in New Guinea) from a woman in Victoria! So it was a truly great, national response, and one for which I’m extremely grateful.

Our veteran community really does have our back(s), and my experience shows the much-touted camaraderie of the defence veteran community does really exist.

Thanks again.
