DVA has released new compensation assessment guidance to help General Practitioners (GPs) and non-GP specialists understand the clinical information required when completing assessments for veteran compensation claims.
The practical, downloadable guides explain the information DVA needs when assessing liability and permanent impairment claims to support timely and informed decision making. They cover what to include in an assessment, what information is not required, and the role of providers in the compensation assessment process.
DVA medical reports do not require detailed understanding of compensation legislation or military medicine. The guidance clarifies existing requirements and the clinical information DVA needs to assess a claim.
DVA has also introduced a new Provider Acknowledgment form to help us improve our use of the important information you provide. Requests for information from DVA may include a Medical Provider Acknowledgement form. In most cases, DVA prefers compensation reports from a veteran’s treating doctor as this improves continuity of care.
To further support providers, DVA has released a new VETs HeLP education modules that provides additional guidance to completing compensation assessments.
Providers can download the quick guides and access other provider resources on the DVA website.
