Health service providers, veterans, families of veterans, peak bodies, ex-service organisations and other interested stakeholders are invited to help shape the design of allied health arrangements for Veteran Card holders, with consultation now open.
DVA is seeking feedback on the arrangements announced in the 2026-27 Budget, which are scheduled to begin on 1 July 2027. The proposed changes aim to support Veteran Card holders to continue receiving clinically appropriate allied health care and achieve positive health outcomes.
The release of the discussion paper marks the beginning of the consultation process. Feedback received through written submissions and stakeholder engagement activities will help shape the detailed design and implementation of the new arrangements before they commence on 1 July 2027.
The discussion paper outlines the proposed approach and key questions for consultation. We encourage providers and other stakeholders to review the discussion paper and submit their feedback on key aspects of the proposed approach, including the process for accessing additional services above the annual $5,000 threshold for review of clinical effectiveness, including clinical justification criteria and approval processes.
The proposed arrangements are focused on allied health services and would not affect dental, optical or hearing services; general practitioner or specialist services; pharmaceuticals; or psychology and counselling services delivered through Open Arms.

The session will provide an overview of the discussion paper and consultation process, and explain how you can provide feedback on the proposed arrangements.
