From Broken Hill, member of the West Broken Hill Rifle Club, shot Queens Medal for Navy & during WW2 mines from the deck of ships.
Jack was in the Mediterranean in 1939 on the destroyer HMAS Voyager (part of the Scrap Iron Flotilla). Was on HMAS Australia when hit by kamikaze on 4 occasions with great loss of life. Lost mates during the war, Mentioned in Dispatches & DSM.
As a kid I asked my grandfather what he did in the war, he replied “Well for the first half of it I was lobbing bombs back at my German relatives”
