Patricia's reflection
Stan Braithwaite joined the RAN as an Engine Room Artificer in August 1940. He served on HMAS Stuart, Napal, Warramunga and Sydney until he left the navy in August 1951, and he continued to work for the Department of Navy in a civilian capacity until his retirement in 1982. Although he saw much active service, Stan did not openly reflect much on the difficulties of war, preferring instead to regale his friends and family with stories of some of his more hilarious wartime exploits. He felt a deep affiliation with the RAN that remained with him until his death in 2008.
