Letter to the Editor

The commemoration of the Malayan Emergency article from Ross Beadmen brought back many memories for me [Vetaffairs December 2025]. I was out there in the Far Eastern Fleet aboard HMS Constance in 1948. The ship certainly wasn't designed for the tropics and I saw first-hand an egg being fried on the steel upper deck!!

Our ship rotated with other destroyers up both coasts of Malaya to prevent insurgents from entering the country. It was hot and tedious most of the time but we did prevent quite a few of the insurgents from getting ashore. Thanks Ross for memories.
