More than 8,000 veterans and families of veterans living across the Southwest Perth region will have access to much-needed support and services through the new Goldsworthy Veterans’ and Families’ Centre, which opened today. The region is also home to Australia’s largest naval base – HMAS Stirling – with more than 4,100 employees.
Opened by the Hon. Matt Keogh MP, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel, the Goldsworthy Veterans’ and Families’ Centre is close to public transport, community facilities and services including a hospital, recreation centre, library, and education centres, making it easier for veterans and families to access the support they need.
Named after Lieutenant Commander Leon Verdi Goldsworthy GC DSC GM — Australia’s most decorated naval officer of the Second World War— the Goldsworthy Veterans’ and Families’ Centre is conveniently located in the heart of Rockingham at 65 Dixon Road and is operated by RSL Western Australia (RSL WA).
RSL WA has a long and proud history of supporting veterans and families across Perth and will now be working closely with the local community to provide a Hub that meets their specific needs.
The Centre offers a welcoming space where veterans’ services and advocacy organisations work together to deliver integrated, holistic, wrap-around support – this can include mental and physical health services, wellbeing support, advocacy, employment and housing advice, and social connection.
All current and former serving Australian Defence Force members, including reservists, and families can access support at any Hub.
Of the 18 Hub locations around the country, 14 are now operational and providing services to the veteran community, with two further Hubs set to open by mid-2027.
Currently, there are Hubs providing services to local communities in Perth (WA), Adelaide (SA), Nowra (NSW), Wodonga (VIC), Darwin (NT), Caboolture (QLD), Burnie (TAS), Northern Adelaide (SA), Maitland (NSW), Queanbeyan (NSW), Hobart and Launceston (TAS), with newly opened Hubs in Ipswich (QLD) and Tweed/North Coast (NSW).
Additional Hubs are being established in the Hawkesbury (NSW) and Surf Coast/Geelong (VIC) regions. In 2025, further funding was announced for an additional Hub to be established in Bendigo (VIC).
The Southwest Perth Hub is part of the Australian Government’s $46.7 million commitment to establish 8 new Veterans’ and Families’ Hubs across the country to ensure even more veterans and families can access support close to home.
