The Australian Government has today announced it will provide funding to support the concept development and design of a new Australian Military Training Memorial. The Memorial will honour Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel who have lost their lives during training and in preparations for operational service, recognising the hazards and sacrifices inherent in ADF service.
These ADF personnel were preparing themselves to serve and protect Australia, in a commitment to something greater than themselves. Despite the risks, they were determined to serve their nation and made the ultimate sacrifice.
In recognition of their service and sacrifice, the Australian Peacekeeper and Peacemaker Veterans’ Association (APPVA) will use initial seed funding to scope design options for an Australian Military Training Memorial, consult with the community about the design for potential development.
The initial funding from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs will support this consultation process. This will assist the APPVA to ensure the Memorial is designed in a way which supports the serving, ex-serving, family and broader community to visit and reflect on those lives lost.
Their memory endures in the hearts of their loved ones, their comrades and a grateful nation.
