Over 15,000 veterans, current-serving ADF personnel and families of veterans in the Ipswich area will now have greater access to a tailored support system in their own backyard, with the official opening of a new Veterans’ and Families’ Hub in Ipswich.
Opened yesterday by Luke Gosling OAM, MP, the Special Envoy for Defence, Veterans’ Affairs and Northern Australia, the Hub has been co-designed with veterans and families of veterans to reflect the needs of the local community.
RSL Queensland, working in partnership with Mates4Mates, has provided a multidisciplinary, holistic facility offering a “no wrong door” approach to support, so veterans and families of veterans receive access to the right care at the right time.
The Hub has a large range of support services on offer, including advocacy, wellbeing, employment, mental health, physical rehabilitation and social connection activities. Services will expand in the future to include exercise physiology and physiotherapy along with social connection programs that build on existing Mates4Mates services.
Located at 260 Brisbane Street in West Ipswich, the Hub’s prime and accessible location is already well-known to many in the veteran community and conveniently includes onsite parking and nearby bus and train routes.
Of the 18 nominated Hub locations around the country, 12 are now operational and providing services to the veteran community, with 2 more to officially open their doors in the coming months, delivering on the Australian Government’s $46.7 million commitment to expand the Hub network.
