Funding announced for Veterans’ and Families’ Hub in northern NSW
The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Matt Keogh today announced that the Australian Government will provide RSL LifeCare a $5 million grant to establish a Veterans’ and Families’ Hub in the Tweed/North Coast region.
This is a welcome announcement for the more than 25,000 current and ex-serving personnel and families that live in the Tweed and surrounding regions, who can expect better access to programs, support and services.
The new Hub will connect RSL sub-branches, providing outreach programs to areas such as Lismore and Byron Bay and across the border into the Gold Coast.
Guided by continued engagement with local veterans and families, the Hub will offer support services such as mental and physical health, wellbeing support, advocacy, employment, housing advice and social connection. Services will be delivered in partnership with local businesses, community groups and government agencies.
RSL LifeCare’s expansion into Northern NSW and Southern Queensland builds upon their established network of similar self-funded Hubs in Wagga Wagga, Dee Why and Newcastle, as well as the “Nowra Veteran Wellbeing Centre”, funded under the Veterans’ and Families’ Hub Program.
RSL LifeCare’s experience in operating these Hubs will be invaluable, with programs and services to be tailored to the needs of the Tweed/North Coast veteran community.
RSL LifeCare was also awarded grant funding this year, to establish a Veteran’s and Families’ Hub in Queanbeyan, as part of the Government’s $46.7 million commitment to deliver Veterans’ and Families’ Hubs across the country.
