Guidance for assessing eligibility for DVA funded health care

DVA recognises the vital role health providers have in delivering care to the veteran community and remains committed in supporting you.

When treating veterans and families of veterans, health providers are responsible for confirming if treatment is clinically necessary for a White Card holders accepted condition, before providing care. In most cases, this assessment can be completed without contacting DVA.

What’s changing?

The Notes for General Practitioners and Notes for Allied Health Providers (the Notes) have been updated to require health providers to assess if a Veteran Card holder is eligible for DVA funded health care, removing the requirement to contact DVA to confirm eligibility. Providers only need to contact DVA if they are unsure of a White Card holder’s eligibility. To support this change we have developed a suite of resources available at: Providing treatment to DVA clients.

Providers treating DVA clients have a requirement to adhere to the Notes and should refresh their awareness on a regular basis.
