It's now easier to prescribe Medical Grade Footwear (MGF) for veterans

It will now be easier for assessing health providers to prescribe Medical Grade Footwear (MGF) for veterans, with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ (DVA) new National Guideline for the MGF Program and improved D0688 prescription form. The new Guideline will help assessing health providers to better understand:

  • the scope of DVA’s MGF Program;
  • who is eligible within the veteran community;
  • who can prescribe;
  • how to prescribe;
  • who supplies MGF;
  • footwear for clients with diabetes; and
  • a flowchart and clinical pathway for assessing health providers.

Supporting the National Guideline there is an updated and improved D0688 MGF prescription form.

Both documents can be found on the DVA website and should be used for all future MGF prescriptions and supplies.
