Household services
Important update for Household Services Payments
Providers must submit invoices on behalf of a veteran via the Provider Upload Page (PUP). Only invoices uploaded using "Invoices (for Providers Only)" can be processed for payment.
Veterans
If you are a veteran seeking reimbursement for the cost of approved household services, you can do so by reading more information on the new process.
What are household services
Extra support can be provided if you need help at home because of a service-related injury or condition.
Support can be provided to assist while you are recovering from surgery or on an ongoing basis if you have complex health issues.
Common services may include help with:
- cleaning
- shopping
- childcare in some short-term and crisis care circumstances
- laundry
- ironing
- lawn mowing
- gardening
- meal preparation
Who can receive it
You may be eligible if you:
- are unable to manage household tasks because of your accepted service-related injury or condition; and
- are assessed as having a reasonable requirement for household services
Changes from 1 July 2026
- From 1 July 2026, veterans who are having difficulties managing domestic tasks because of service-related conditions accepted under the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986 (VEA) can lodge a claim for compensation for Household Services.
- All new claims for Household Services compensation submitted on or after 1 July are assessed under the MRCA, irrespective of when you served in the ADF, when your service-related injury or disease occurred, or which Act your previous service-related conditions were previously accepted under.
- From 1 July 2026, if you are already receiving compensation for Household Services under DRCA this will continue without interruption until the renewal date in your determination letter. At this point, your compensation will be reviewed under the MRCA.

Your clinical needs determine the services you can receive. The provider who undertakes your initial assessment will recommend the services you need.
We can reimburse you or pay your service provider directly for approved services they provide. There is a maximum amount we can pay per week. If your current household services compensation has been determined under:
- MRCA the maximum is:
- $611.46 for the 2025–26 financial year
- $633.47 from 1 July 2026.
- DRCA the maximum is:
- $588.55 for the 2025–26 financial year
- $609.74 from 1 July 2026.
Standard maximum rate for household services
The standard maximum rate your service providers may charge for the 2026 calendar year is $79.90 per hour inclusive of GST. You do not need to seek further DVA approval for your provider to charge up to the rate published each calendar year for the duration of your approved service period.
