Interpretive Centres and Education

We fund and maintain some overseas walking trails, visitor centres and websites that help people learn about the Australian experience of war.

Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre, Thailand

The Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre and Memorial Walking Trail commemorate those who suffered and died in the Asia Pacific region during the Second World War.

PNG Remembrance Trail

To honour and remember those who served and died during the Second World War in the Papua and New Guinea campaigns, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs has developed a virtual remembrance trail.

Sandakan Memorial Park, Malaysia

The Sandakan Memorial Park and Sandakan Interpretive Pavilion commemorate those who suffered and died at the Sandakan Prisoner of War camp during the Second World War.
