What is the Veterans’ Supplement for home care

The Veterans' Supplement provides additional funding to Support at Home providers in recognition of the additional costs that may be required to deliver appropriate care to veterans with accepted, service related mental health conditions. The Supplement is paid directly to the Support at Home program provider on a veteran’s behalf.

Residential aged care providers can also get Veterans' Supplement for some veterans living in permanent care. Go to Veterans' Supplement for residential care to find out more.

Who is eligible

Any veteran with a Commonwealth-subsidised Support at Home program who has a mental health condition that we have accepted as related to their service is eligible. Payment may only occur if a veteran or their nominated representative has consented to certain information being disclosed to Services Australia and their Support at Home provider.

There is no need for veterans to apply or undergo an assessment for the Supplement to be paid to Support at Home providers. War widow(er)s and dependants are not eligible for the Supplement.

You do not need to give your consent. However, the Supplement will only be paid to your provider if you consent to the release of certain information to Services Australia, which allows them to pay your Support at Home program provider. This information confirms that your DVA status meets the requirements for the payment and also includes your name and file number.

No details of your accepted mental health condition, or any further information is shared with Services Australia or your Support at Home program provider.
