#OneInAMillion

This year, on 15 August, we mark 75 years since the end of the Second World War, the largest global conflict of the 20th century.

Some one million Australians stood up in support of the Allied cause from a population of just seven million, making the impact of this conflict not only far reaching in distance but also across all parts of the Australian community.

Every Australian who enlisted to serve became #OneInAMillion, with each one of their stories powerful and significant. From 1 August 2020, the Australian Government will share those stories and is encouraging all Australians to be involved through its #OneInAMillion campaign. 

For the #OneInAMillion: Wall of Respect initiative, you can be involved by simply sharing a photo of yourself holding a picture of your Second World War relative or loved one on your social media using #OneInAMillion.

A second element is the #OneInAMillion: Hearing their stories, which features eight interviews with Australians who served during the Second World War. These interviews are compelling and capture their personal accounts of their wartime experiences.

From 2 June until the commemorations on 15 August, a social media series ‘75 days, 75 stories,’ has also been running. This has also been broadcast on radio networks across the nation. This series shares the stories of Australians who lived through the Second World War, from those who served to the many who contributed on the home front.

Together we can commemorate those brave Australians who served during the Second World War and ensure their stories are remembered for generations to come.
