Incapacity Payments for Veterans Studying Pilot closing

The Incapacity Payments for Veterans Studying Pilot (also known as the Step-up to Incapacity Payments for Veterans Studying pilot) is closing on 30 June 2023.

Under the Pilot, veterans could receive 100% of their incapacity payments while studying full‑time in line with their DVA rehabilitation plan.

Participants of the Pilot will continue to receive incapacity payments based on 100% of pre-injury earnings until the Pilot closes on 30 June 2023, or at the end of their approved course of study, whichever occurs earlier.

After 30 June 2023, once a veteran has been on incapacity payments for 45 weeks or more, their incapacity payments will be based on 75% of their pre-injury earnings.

Veterans who are studying as part of their rehabilitation plan are still able to get support to pay mandatory course fees, which may include fees for student services or amenities, apprenticeship course fees or administration fees.

An incidentals allowance is also available to assist with the cost of items such as textbooks or other supplies. For more information about studying under a rehabilitation plan, please contact rehabilitation [at] dva.gov.au
