Defence Archives – revamped web page and new form

A message from the Department of Defence

The Department of Defence has launched a new Service and Personnel Records webpage and web-based ‘Request for Records’ functionality for our ex Australian Defence Force members and third parties.

New web page for service and personnel records access

The webpage is designed to assist ex-members and third parties seeking information on how to access records. The webpage provides clear and detailed information on:

  • who can access service records
  • types of service records
  • how to request service records
  • amending service records
  • requesting other types of records.

New ‘Request for records’ functionality

This web-based process provides a single ‘one-stop shop’ encounter for users. It provides a number of benefits to its ex-members and third parties, including:

  • a single online platform, eliminating the need to have any additional applications
  • no manual downloading, printing or signing forms
  • a streamlined experience for users
  • a communicative nature and interactive design that guides users through the process
  • an intuitive step-by-step information collection based on the customer’s request
  • improved processing times.

In addition, the level and avenues of support provided to those requesting records has increased. Multiple assistance channels are now available for users including email, web page and telephone.

If an ex-member does not have access to internet or email, our Customer Support Network staff are contactable on 1800 DEFENCE (1800 333 362). They can complete the request on your behalf and provide guidance on submitting Proof of Identity requirements.

Defence Archives are driven to support a consistent approach and a high-level service delivery experience for ex-members. We look forward to providing an enhanced service to those who served our country.
