DVA offers guidance on suspected scams
Have you ever been contacted by a scammer and were unsure where to go for help and support?
DVA has just published a page on the DVA website that may help you if you think you’ve been scammed.
The ‘Avoiding and reporting a suspected scam’ page explains what a scam is, how to identify potential scams, tips to protect yourself, who to contact if you’re concerned and how to report a scam.
Scams do not discriminate and have the ability to target people from all backgrounds, ages and income levels. Scams succeed because they look like the ‘real thing’ and often catch you off guard.
Many individuals often experience shame after falling victim to a scam and don’t report it. However, this silence gives the scammers more power.
Scams can cause serious harm and reporting them can prevent future scams. It also helps organisations to prevent or disrupt scam activity.
To report a scam that refers to the DVA, we encourage reporting the scam by completing the Report a DVA suspected scam form. Please call 1800 VETERAN (1800 838 372) for assistance to complete this form if you need to.
Although we are unable to investigate scams that relate to other organisations, we can offer general support and guidance on where suspected scams can be reported.
