Australian War Widows NSW launches Our Space in Sydney
A message from Australian War Widows NSW
‘One day you will tell your story of how you overcame what you went through, and it will be someone else’s survival guide’ – Brene Brown, American academic, author and podcaster
This is what Our Space is about: creating a place that is for Defence and veteran families to connect, meet others like them, build a network and share wonderful insights and powerful stories. Our Space puts the families of our service personnel and veterans first.
We know, as many of you do, that service with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) impacts many people, not just the serving member. Families are the primary support network for ADF members throughout service and beyond, and families too can be affected directly by the service of their loved ones. Currently, there are very few programs focused specifically on building connections and establishing informal peer-to-peer support networks for veterans’ families and contemporary widows. In fact, many families tell us that they often struggle to find and connect to services, and have their needs met. They often feel isolated within the veteran community.
Through Our Space, we are seeking to address that.
Our first Our Space event in Sydney will take place on 16 September at the Cronulla RSL. The event will feature special guests Rachel Martin and her husband, Paralympian Curtis McGrath OAM. Don't miss out on hearing wonderful insights from Rachel and Curt as they take us on their journey and share their lessons and insights.
Join us for lunch and a chat with Rachel and Curt. You are sure to be inspired!
The event is free for Defence and veteran families (including war widows)
Please register. To do so, you can either go to Eventbrite (which also has more information about the event) or phone us on 02 9267 6577.
