How to claim under the DRCA

Claims from 1 July 2026
From 1 July 2026, the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence-related Claims) Act 1988 (DRCA) closed to new compensation and rehabilitation claims, and all new claims will be determined under an improved Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (MRCA).
For those who have lodged claims under the DRCA prior to 1 July 2026, appeal rights under those Acts will still be available after 1 July 2026 until their relevant review periods expire. Review periods begin at the date the claim was determined and last for a specified period depending on the type of claim and the Act it came under.
