What is the Grants in Aid Program (GIA Program)

The Grants in Aid Program aims to support the role of national Ex-Service Organisations (ESOs) to provide coordinating and representational support for the Australian veteran and Defence community. This program is open to national ESOs by invitation and provides funding to encourage cooperation and communication between the ex-service community, ESOs and the Australian Government. Funding for national ESOs aims to encourage the national advancement of the objectives of ESOs.

Who can apply

The GIA Program is a closed non-competitive grant opportunity that opens annually. As a requirement of this grant, eligible entities must be invited to apply. The approved list of ESOs to be invited is reviewed each year and is published at Section 4.2 of the Guidelines.

How do I apply

Only ESOs invited to apply through GrantConnect are eligible to apply for this grant. An invitation does not guarantee success in receiving funding.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to read all grant opportunity documentation, especially the Grant Opportunity Guidelines and any instructions on the application form. Grant Opportunity Guidelines are specific to each grant round and contain important information about the purpose of the program, eligibility and compliance requirements, eligible items, timeframes, and how to apply.

You can register on GrantConnect to receive notifications when new grant opportunities become available.

If you need assistance, please contact us at GIA@dva.gov.au.

What happens if my grant application is successful

If your application is successful, you will receive a grant agreement. Payments will be made after the signed agreement has been returned.

When your project is complete, you must submit an acquittal within the timeframe specified in the grant agreement. To be eligible for future DVA grant funding, all outstanding acquittals must be submitted.
