Commemorative coin marks 25 years since Australian service in Afghanistan began

25th anniversary of Australian service in Afghanistan 2001-2021

To mark 25 years since Australian service in Afghanistan (2001-2021) began, DVA is releasing a commemorative coin that recognises everyone who served and acknowledges the lasting impact of that service on veterans and families.

The coin recognises all Australians who served in the Afghanistan War (2001–2014) and conflicts in Afghanistan (2015 to present). It honours Australians who lost their lives during or as a result of their service and acknowledge the physical and mental impacts that service has had on many of our veterans and their families.

The commemorative coin will be available to all attendees at the national commemorative service on Sunday 11 October 2026.  

Recognising that many veterans and families may be unable to attend the service in person, the commemorative coin can be collected in person from 5 November by visiting the below locations:

Alternatively, veterans, families of veterans and community members can register to receive a commemorative coin by post. Please complete the online registration form.
