The Repatriation Commission

About the Commission

The Commission oversees Australia’s veteran support system and are independent of Government. They play a critical role in administering the legislation that provides benefits and support to Australia’s defence and veteran community. The Commission also provides advice to both DVA and the Government on the development of policy to ensure veterans and their family’s needs are supported, now and into the future.

The Repatriation Commission grants pensions and benefits and provides treatment and other services under the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986 (VEA) to veterans and members of the Australian Defence Force, their partners, widows, widowers and children. The Commission also provides advice to the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs on related issues.

The Repatriation Commission also provides compensation and other benefits for current and former members of the Australian Defence Force, and their dependants, who suffer an injury or disease due to service. 

The Commission directly oversees the granting of pensions, allowances and other benefits – activities carried out by DVA. The Commission is involved in determining policy, identifying anomalies, considering whether matters should be appealed, advising the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, and the Parliament, liaising with the veteran community, and cooperating with the Department of Defence, Comcare, the Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation and other government agencies.

On 1 July 2026 the membership of the Repatriation Commission was expanded to include additional members. 

Colin Radford – Commissioner representing Comcare 

Colin Radford is the Chief Executive Officer of Comcare and commenced as a Commissioner on 1 July 2026. 

Lieutenant General Natasha Fox AO CSC – Commissioner representing Defence 

Lieutenant General Fox is the Chief of Personnel at the Department of Defence and commenced as a Commissioner on 1 July 2026.
