A Vietnam War Interpretive Centre: The Education Center at the Wall
Also known as the Vietnam Veterans Education Centre, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund’s (VVMF) Education Center at the Wall (the Centre) was to be a cutting-edge interpretive centre established on the National Mall in Washington DC, telling the military, social and political story of the Vietnam War through images, film, and audio.
The Centre was to be built on the land opposite the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (the Wall). In September 2018, VVMF have announced that the board is directing staff to now focus on online resources, hand-held technology, education staff, mobile exhibits and partnerships to teach visitors about the Vietnam War and honour those whose names appear on the Memorial. For further details, please refer to the VVMF media release.
The VVMF will continue integrating its education outreach with its other ongoing programs, including physical maintenance of the Memorial, annual ceremonies, The Wall That Heals mobile exhibit, In Memory program, and meeting groups and individuals at The Wall. Visit the VVMF website to learn more.
The Australian Government contributed US$3.3 million to the project, and will consult with the VVMF to determine how best we may support their new direction.
Australian Stories of the Vietnam War
This collection of interviews was commissioned by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to tell Australia’s story of the Vietnam War. They were developed as part of the Australian Government’s commitment to the development of the Education Center at the Wall, and to remembering the contribution made by our service men and women to the Vietnam War, and the impact on their families and Australian society. Each film tells an individual story as well as a broader theme of Australia’s service in Vietnam. View the Australian Stories of the Vietnam War.
The Vietnam War Roll of Honour Image Gallery
The gallery features an image and profile for each of the 521 Australians that died as a result of their service in the Vietnam War and who are recorded on the Vietnam War Roll of Honour at the Australian War Memorial. These images were collected to feature on the Wall of Faces in the Centre in Washington. Developed as an adjunct to Australia’s contribution to the Centre, this Gallery allows users to explore the 521 through a number of categories using simple search tools.
