2017 Senate inquiry into suicide by veterans and ex-service personnel

25 June 2019

On 24 October 2017, the Government tabled its response to the Senate Inquiry into suicide by veterans and ex-service personnel agreeing to all 24 recommendations – 22 recommendations were agreed and two were agreed in principle.

Fifteen of the recommendations call for 12 different reviews and studies – nine are completed, two are on-going and one is about to be completed when the Productivity Commission inquiry reports. Of the nine other recommendations, six are complete and three are substantially completed.

This constituted a significant body of work undertaken by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) and other agencies such as the Department of Defence, the Productivity Commission, Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and the Australian Public Service Commission.
