Administrative Appeals Tribunal

6 December 2019

DVA does not comment on the detail in individual cases for privacy reasons, however, all veterans have a right to appeal decisions, including to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT).

The AAT provides independent merits review of a wide range of administrative decisions made by the Australian Government and what documentation is required in that appeal is directed by the AAT and DVA has an obligation to assist the Tribunal with all directions.

When a veteran makes a decision to appeal a determination to the AAT, of which is less than 1 per cent of claims through DVA, their case has already been reviewed twice by an independent review processes.
