World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2022

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day aims to raise awareness of this important issue. The Day was officially recognised by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011 and is now commemorated annually on 15 June around the world.

Elder abuse occurs when a person aged older than 65 years experiences a single or repeated act of abuse or neglect where harm or distress is caused to the individual. It can happen to anyone, and includes physical, psychological, emotional, sexual and financial abuse. It can also be the result of intentional or unintentional neglect.

Any veterans in the community experiencing elder abuse, or any other form of family or domestic violence are encouraged to seek help.

A range of support services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
