Head to Health has veterans covered
The website offers information on common mental health conditions, advice on how to support yourself or someone else who may be struggling, and tips for living a meaningful life.
Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling (Open Arms) has been working with Head to Health to ensure veterans and their families are ‘covered’ on the site and have access to a wide range of resources that are relevant to their experiences and needs.
Military experience comes with a unique set of challenges. These include separations due to deployments, relocations, the risks associated with defence service and the difficulties that can come with transitioning to civilian life. Therefore, it’s important to have access to the right information. With this in mind, veterans and their families can find helpful information they may need at various stages of their lives on the Supporting yourself – veterans page.
This page will link you with apps, programs, websites and a number of trusted organisations like Open Arms that provide support to veterans and their families. This kind of support is more important in this COVID world than ever before as we all look for ways to strengthen our overall wellbeing and take action towards healthy minds, bodies and spirits.
Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling was founded by Vietnam veterans, a veteran cohort that came together in adversity to find new ways to support each other. Their legacy has led to Open Arms being Australia’s leading provider of high quality mental health assessment, clinical counselling and support services for Australian veterans and their families. If you or someone you know needs support call Open Arms on 1800 011 046 - 24 hours a day, seven days a week or visit www.openarms.gov.au.
