Get involved with DVA’s rehabilitation pilot

DVA recently established a two-year rehabilitation pilot offering eligible veterans social wellbeing and employment support, without the need to have an accepted compensation claim with the department.

Early access to rehabilitation can help veterans improve their health and wellbeing. Under the new Non-Liability Rehabilitation Pilot, a professional rehabilitation consultant helps participants create an activity plan that aligns with their personal rehabilitation goals. The plan lasts three to six months, and may include assistance with:

  • social wellbeing: building new social connections in the local community;
  • employment support: assistance with becoming job-ready, changing careers, or adjusting to the civilian workforce; and
  • medical management: getting a Medicare card or engaging a suitable general practitioner.

The pilot began on 1 January 2022 and will run for two years.

We encourage veterans who meet the criteria below to consider joining the pilot. Eligible veterans are those who:

  • feel they need some rehabilitation help;
  • are separated from the Australian Defence Force or are in the process of transitioning;
  • live in Australia;
  • are yet to have a claim for an injury or disease finalised by DVA;
  • are not already participating in a DVA rehabilitation program; and
  • are covered under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (MRCA) or the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence-related Claims) Act 1988 (DRCA).
