Flooding in NSW – disaster assistance is available
If you’ve been impacted by the flooding in New South Wales, help is available.
Since 7 July 2022, eligible residents in the local government areas (LGAs) affected by the severe storms and flooding in metropolitan Sydney and the east coast of New South Wales can make a claim for the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment and the Disaster Recovery Allowance.
The Disaster Recovery Payment is a lump sum of $1000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child to people who live in those LGAs and who have suffered a significant loss as a result of the floods. This includes a severely damaged or destroyed home or a serious injury.
The Disaster Recovery Allowance is available to people who have lost income as a direct result of the floods, and is payable for a maximum of 13 weeks. It applies to people such as employees and sole traders.
