Community services back on for Anzac Day
Anzac Day is one of the most significant days of commemoration for Australians, when we publicly and privately recognise and honour those defence personnel who have given so much in our nation’s name.
With pandemic restrictions eased, on 25 April Australians can again commemorate by attending a local community service, taking part in the RSL’s ‘Light up the Dawn’ initiative, or commemorating in their own way at home.
Ex-service organisations, state and territory governments are conducting Anzac Day services around the country. Find out where local services will be held by getting in touch with your local RSL sub-branch or visiting their websites.
You can also tune into to the national Dawn Service, Veterans’ March and Commemorative Address, broadcast live from the Australian War Memorial on ABC television and the department’s Facebook page.
International Dawn Services at Gallipoli in Turkey and Villers-Bretonneux in France will also be broadcast live on the ABC on Anzac Day and live-streamed on Facebook.
The department has a digital kitbag of printable materials available from the Anzac Portal to help you plan to commemorate Anzac Day in your own community and recognise our veterans and serving personnel.
The kitbag includes Anzac Day speeches, orders of service, commemorative music playlists, craft activities and more. To obtain your free copy of the kitbag, visit anzacportal.dva.gov.au/ad-kitbag
This Anzac Day, we invite Australians to come together again, wear a sprig of rosemary or a red poppy, show your support for our serving defence forces, pay tribute to our veterans, and remember the more than 102,000 Australians who have given their lives in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
