Ex-Service Organisation Support

ESOs provide assistance to current and former ADF members. Services can include but are not necessarily limited to:  welfare support, assistance with DVA claims, and employment programs and social support.

A number of ESOs have provided advice on specific support to ex-ADF members and, in some cases, their families, when they are at risk of homelessness or are homeless.  The following provide details of this support:

Australia Wide

Bravery Trust

 

Provides financial support to veterans, current and former ADF members and their families.  We provide this assistance to those who have suffered injury or illness as a result of their service and who are experiencing financial hardship. Support with:
  •  Household expenses;
  •  Utilities and food vouchers;
  •  Insurances and registrations;
  •  Vehicle service, repairs and fuel vouchers;
  •  Health care;
  •  Education and training; and
  • Financial Counselling.
Veterans, current and former Australian Defence Force members and their dependants.
Homes for Heroes Provides housing and rehabilitation services to former members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), veterans of coalition countries and their families, provided they are genuinely homeless or at risk of homelessness
  • Whole of person rehabilitation and support.
  • Short and long term accommodation at four locations in NSW (Narrabeen, Toukley, Galston & Lismore) with expectation that individual’s are engaged in the program and work towards their rehabilitation.
  • Referral to service providers.
Whilst based in NSW, provide what assistance they can to those in need anywhere in Australia.
Veterans Off the Streets Australia Ltd(VOTSA) Established to assist homeless veterans and ex-service personnel in finding crisis, temporary and permanent accommodation. To actively find and assist veteran and ex-service personnel families who are looking for accommodation related assistance and provide a concierge service for at risk personnel and their families.
  • Act as a concierge service to assist those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness find suitable crisis or temporary accommodation.
Current and ex-serving members of the ADF and their families.
Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia NSW Branch Inc Established to assist Vietnam veterans and their families, however, are in a position to assist former members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) in time of injury, illness and crisis.
  • Financial and crisis assistance.
  • Assistance with DVA entitlements.
  • Transition to civilian life.
Whilst based in NSW, any former ADF member and his/her family are welcome to contact and we will help if we are able.
V360 Australia To help today’s veterans succeed in tomorrow’s world and provide solutions to veteran homelessness. Actively search for, identify and assist veterans at risk of or experiencing homelessness.  Provide:
  • Crisis and emergency accommodation.
  • Support to ensure veterans’ and their immediate family members are supported once housed.
All ex Australian Defence Force members and their families.

 

New South Wales

RSL Care SA RSL Care SA is a proud not for profit, charitable care provider serving the ex-service and wider community for over 100 years.
  • Residential Aged Care facilities providing care services and support for financially and socially disadvantaged people.
  • Affordable housing accommodation.
  • Andrew Russell Veteran Living (ARVL) program, providing emergency transit accommodation for homeless veterans and ex-service persons, and those at risk of homelessness.
Primary client group is veterans and ex-service community, although our services are also available to the broader SA community.
Soldier On Provides social and professional reintegration and recovery services and support to contemporary veterans who have been affected by their service and their family members.
  • Referral to RSL advocates and affiliated organisations capable of offering crisis accommodation and relationship counselling and support. 
  • Peer and social support for those in crisis accommodation through structured activities both social and physical. 
  • Needs assessments for employment, education and training and provision of employment support services and advocacy.

Melbourne Legacy Caring for the families for those who served their Country.

In collaboration with the State RSL office and other Ex-service Organisations, assist with accommodation issues, financial assistance and referrals to relevant governing bodies as well as assistance with DVA entitlements.

Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL), Victorian Branch The RSL was established in 1916 to promote the well-being & betterment of serving & ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) & their dependants.

Vasey RSL Care Ltd Provide high quality sustainable accommodation & service options to the ex-service community with approximately 400 independent living units (Melbourne  & Geelong) with specific criteria for admission for financially disadvantaged people aged over 60.  However, there is special consideration to those under 60 who are suitable for an independent living unit.  Also provide home care support & residential aged care for the elderly. Accommodation, home care services if eligible & residential aged care. Ex-service community including defence forces, veterans & war widows.

 

Western Australia

  • Emergency Special Aid (financial).
