The organisations listed below provide specific support for veterans and their families who are experiencing, or are at risk of homelessness.

Homes for Heroes

Provides housing services to former members of the ADF and their families, and veterans of coalition countries and their families, who are at risk of homelessness, or are homeless.

Rehabilitation and support to meet whole-of-person needs.

Short and long-term accommodation at four locations in NSW (Narrabeen, Toukley, Galston & Lismore for individuals who are engaged in the program and work towards their rehabilitation goals.

Referral to service providers.

Homes for Heroes is NSW based, but will, provide what assistance they can to those in need anywhere in Australia.

Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia NT Branch Inc

Provides short term crisis accommodation at Coral House.

Coral House has shared amenities, including kitchen, lounge with TV and computer and occupants have their own fridge.

Veterans and other homeless men.

Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia QLD Branch Inc

Provides crisis and housing services as well as social and emotional support services including:

  • Single room accommodation in Remembrance House, 61 Progress Rd, Burpengary (fee is charged).
  • Zac's Place accommodation centre – 715 Ross River Rd, Kirwan QLD (Townsville) -single and double room accommodation (fee is charged).
  • Welfare, Pension and Advocacy services (office is located at Zac's Place)
  • Welfare, pension and advocacy support.

RSL Care SA

Andrew Russell Veteran Living (ARVL) program, providing emergency transit accommodation for homeless veterans and ex-service persons, and those at risk of homelessness.

Also provides:

  • Residential Aged Care facilities providing care services and support for financially and socially disadvantaged people.
  • Affordable housing accommodation.

Primary client group is veterans and ex-service community, although our services are also available to the broader SA community.

Vasey RSL Care Ltd

Provides high quality sustainable accommodation & service options to the ex-service community with approximately 400 independent living units (Melbourne & Geelong) with specific criteria for admission for financially disadvantaged people aged over 60.

However, there is special consideration to those under 60 who are suitable for an independent living unit. Also provide home care support & residential aged care for the elderly.

Welfare and Social Support Services

ESOs provide assistance to current and former ADF members. Services can include but are not necessarily limited to:

  • welfare support
  • assistance with DVA claims
  • employment programs and social support.

A number of ESOs have provided advice on specific support to ex-ADF members and, in some cases, their families, when they are at risk of homelessness or are homeless.
