British nuclear testing took place in the 1950s and 1960s. If you lived in and around Maralinga, Emu Fields or the Monte Bello Islands during these times we may be able to give you access to health treatment for any health condition.

Where the British nuclear tests took place

During the 1950s and 1960s British nuclear tests took place at:

  • Maralinga, South Australia
  • Emu Field, South Australia
  • the Monte Bello Islands, off the coast of Western Australia

Who is eligible for health care

 If you lived in or around the tests areas at the time of testing, we will send you a Veteran Gold Card.

You do not need to have served in the Australian Defence Force to get health care. We base eligibility on your physical location at the time of the nuclear tests.
