The Council for Women and Families United by Defence Service

On 14 December 2018, the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, the Hon Darren Chester MP, announced the establishment of a Council for Women and Families United by Defence Service (the Council).

The Council will advise the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, and the Government, on high-level and complex strategic matters relating to women and families impacted by defence service. The idea of a Council representing women and families affected by defence service was first suggested at the 2017 Female Veterans and Veterans' Families Policy Forum (the Forum).

The Council will work closely with other DVA advisory bodies and fora including the Prime Ministerial Advisory Council on Veterans' Mental Health, and the Forum.

DVA has consulted with the veteran community regarding operational arrangements for the Council. Details of the Council membership, and of the first meeting of the Council will be available in early 2019.
