The forum convened in Canberra on Wednesday 18 November 2015.

Discussions covered a range of topics.

Introduction of the Department’s Principal Medical Adviser

The Department’s Principal Medical Adviser, Dr Ian Gardner, introduced himself to members and outlined key focus areas in his role.

Overpayment and Delegate Issues

The forum addressed two member submission from the Australian Peacekeeper and Peacemaker Veterans’ Association regarding overpayments and delegate issues.

Mental and Social Health Update

Members were provided with an update on the Department’s new online mental health resources. Members received a demonstration of: 

  • the High Res resilience website, which complements the High Res app released in March 2015;
  • the updated The Right Mix alcohol management website; and
  • the new suicide prevention app Operation Life, to be used in conjunction with a professional clinician.

Transition and Wellbeing Research Programme

Members received an update on the progress of the Transition and Wellbeing Research Programme. Members were also provided with a brief update on the Long Term Rehabilitation Study.

DVA Website Redesign Update

An update was provided on the progress of the Department’s website redesign.  Members were also informed of the Department’s social media presence.

Guest Speaker

Mr Phillip Thompson, a young veteran, was a guest speaker and delivered a presentation to members on his experiences with the ADF, DVA and ex-service organisations.
