< Previous | Table of Contents | Next >

Tributes have flowed for Les Carlyon, editor, journalist, historian and author, who died on 4 March 2019 aged 76. A strong advocate for commemorating the efforts of those who serve and have served in the defence forces, Carlyon was also a member of the Council of the Australian War Memorial for more than a decade. Regarded as one of Australia’s most engaging and diverse wordsmiths, he wrote six books including two highly acclaimed books marking Australia’s participation in the First World War: Gallipoli and The Great War.
