Fruit and vegetables laid out on a table.

Nutrition will be the focus of this year’s Veterans’ Health Week program.

From 22 to 30 September 2018, DVA, ex-service organisations and community groups will come together during Veterans’ Health Week to highlight the importance of having a healthy lifestyle, which can help us to stay connected to others and live a happier and longer life.

The theme for the event this year is nutrition. We know that good nutrition is essential for an individual’s health at all ages. Eating well plays a key role in reducing the risk of developing a range of chronic health conditions.

From late August, a list of Veterans’ Health Week events will be available. Visit then to find out what events are happening in your area, or call 1800 555 254.

DVA has a range of programs and initiatives that promote the health and wellbeing of the veteran community. These include:

  • the Cooking for One or Two Program — improves quality of life by providing lessons in basic cooking skills and nutrition.
  • the Heart Health program — helps you increase your physical health and well-being through practical exercise, nutrition and life style management support.
  • AT-Ease can help veterans, ADF personnel, and family members identify the symptoms of not coping. When you need to reach out, seek treatment or identify effective ways to move forward, AT-Ease can provide tips, treatment options and resources.
  • the Right Mix website and app — helps you find the right balance of alcohol, diet and exercise for a healthy lifestyle.
  • the High Res website and app — helps serving and ex-serving personnel and their families manage stress and build resilience.
  • the PTSD Coach Australia app — helps you learn about and manage symptoms that commonly occur after trauma.
  • the Operation Life Online website and app — helps those at risk of suicide.
